'Scarce' - Practice Poster

Task: Before we started our trailer, we needed to consider target audiences. We designed a poster that would appeal to the class while also following the modern horror conventions.

Plot details of our idea:
A couple are having a baby but it turns out they are having fraternal twins. The dad of the couple (Zeth) forces his girlfriend (Alex) to give one of the twins up for adoption so they only end up keeping one twin. In the adoption home the young female twin (Zoe) grows up with abuse, violence and lives a hard miserable life. A couple of years after Zoe’s birth, Zeth decides that he does want another child thus a new baby girl was born. This infuriates Zoe as they could have just kept her.
As the two children grow up, the youngest is spoilt by Zeth and grows up to be very bratty and an unpleasant, demanding human being.
After a series of horrendous events and torture, at the age of 18, Zoe finally escapes from the adoption home. After a lot of rest, recovering and plotting she seeks to get her revenge on the world. She goes back to the adoption home and kills everyone who ever harmed her. She then goes to her ‘family home’ and hides in the shadows waiting for her perfect moment to strike. Whilst hidden she witnesses Zeth hurt Alex during an argument. She gets revenge on Zeth for putting her up for adoption and on the youngest sibling for being bratty but leaves her mother (Alex) and her twin as they were innocent.

Positive Responses from other Class Members:
Our trailer idea captures the zeitgeist of the time so it could be quite relatable. Child abuse has been in the news a lot recently with the Jimmy Saville and Gary Glitter dilemma. It brings across a clear narrative so the audience knows what they are in for.

Negative Responses from other Class Members:
Our idea is too complicated and the audience would need to be in ‘the right sort of mood’ to watch it. So we would have quite a niche audience. It could be controversial as a teenager/ child gets killed and this could put people off watching the movie.

Votes:
Our trailer got 13.5 out of 19 which was third in our class. We were reasonably happy with our trailer score but we want to aim higher. There are three people in our group and each of us likes something different. One of us likes gory horrors, the other enjoys psychological horrors and the other one likes action horrors. Bearing this in mind we have decided to make a zombie trailer so we can include all three. With our zombie trailer we are going to have a quick punchy idea which will stick in our audience’s heads and not be too complicated to grasp.
